Unwarranted Bigotry at thedailybanter.com

Realize that you have a responsibility to society. Casting disparagement and making derogatory comments about a religion of which you know nothing relegates your writing to religious discrimination.

Dear Mr. Cesca,

You claim in your July 6, 2018 article that, “Trumpers have ‘gone clear’ in the Scientology sense…” to carry a bigoted and repulsive slur against the Scientology religion.

It would be like saying, “Trumpers have ‘accepted Communion in their lives’” or that “Trumpers have ‘achieved Nirvana’” or “Trumpers have ‘reached Bodhi’”, as if to suggest these are somehow bad or wrong.

To those with conscience and with some sense of religious decency, your thoughtless remark reflects your bigotry.

The Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics states in part:

  • Diligently seek subjects of news coverage to allow them to respond to criticism or allegations of wrongdoing.
  • Avoid stereotyping. Journalists should examine the ways their values and experiences may shape their reporting.

Realize that you have a responsibility to society. Casting disparagement and making derogatory comments about a religion of which you know nothing relegates your writing to religious discrimination.

Please study up on this subject before making comment about it. My best recommendation is Scientology.tv.

Sincerely,

Rita P.
