For more than three decades, David Miscavige, ecclesiastical leader of the Scientology religion, has championed the religious freedom of Scientologists and members of every faith across the globe.

David Miscavige has fought for and helped guarantee the rights of every Scientologist to practice their religion in security and peace, in keeping with the Creed of the Church of Scientology as written by L. Ron Hubbard:

Australia

In October of 1983, the Australian High Court ruled that “the Church of Scientology has easily discharged the onus of showing that it is religious. The conclusion that it is a religious institution entitled to tax exemption is irresistible,” in a decision that established the definition of religion and religious charities for Australia, New Zealand, and throughout the Commonwealth.

United States

Following a two-year examination of unprecedented scope, the IRS issued ruling letters on October 1, 1993, recognizing the tax-exempt religious and charitable status of the Church of Scientology International and 150 affiliated Churches, Missions and social betterment organizations.

Italy

In an October 1997 landmark decision, the Italian Supreme Court recognized the bona fides of the Scientology religion, setting a precedent for religious freedom throughout the European Community by explicitly rejecting a merely Judeo-Christian definition of religion. “Scientology is a bona fide religion whose activities, without exception, [are] characteristic of all religious movements,” the Court concluded.

Europe

On April 5, 2007, the European Court of Human Rights issued a unanimous landmark decision in favor of the Scientology religion across 47 nations.

Spain

On October 31, 2007, the National Court in Madrid issued a unanimous landmark decision affirming the right to religious freedom in Spain by recognizing Spain’s National Church of Scientology as a religious organization entitled to the nation’s full panoply of religious rights.

United Kingdom

On December 11, 2013, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom issued a unanimous landmark ruling declaring that the Chapel at the London Church of Scientology must be recognized as a place of religious worship under UK law.

Belgium

In one of the most significant judgments on religious freedom in the nation’s history, a March 2016 landmark decision vindicated Scientologists in Belgium, declaring that it offends fundamental human rights to put a religion, its doctrines and its beliefs on trial.
