I found Scientology 30 years ago, coming from the underground music, art and culture scene in Los Angeles.
Anything “organized” was anathema to me back then. But I couldn’t deny that the brief courses I took at the Church helped me instantly and enabled me to turn my life around.
Scientology was the first group I had ever joined where no one told me what to do—just to study and apply what I learned, as seemed right to me.
I thank Mr. Miscavige for his brilliant and tireless leadership, and I credit him with turning Mr. Hubbard’s aims into concrete reality every day.
One Friday at an event at the Church, I was introduced to the International Association of Scientologists. I learned how this group, instead of talking about problems, tackled them.
I realized this was exactly the kind of group I had always wanted to be part of.
In time, I became well acquainted with the works of L. Ron Hubbard and applied these in life as I trained to become a Scientology spiritual counselor.
Through that training, I came to appreciate that Mr. Hubbard was a true genius—the most practical kind—and a genuine humanitarian, unlike anyone I had ever known.
Scientology made sense. It was practical. And it worked.
It was also during this time that I became aware of Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige. He was fulfilling Mr. Hubbard’s vision at a scale and speed I had never seen before—a level of effectiveness beyond anything accomplished by anyone, anywhere. At the international events he presided over, his communication was direct and grounded in a way that was new to me. He would explain a situation, then show exactly what had been done to resolve it or to better apply Mr. Hubbard’s intentions with precision and clarity.
Mr. Miscavige embodied the purpose of keeping our religion fully aligned with Mr. Hubbard’s work.
He actually got things done.
And he kept getting things done—day in and day out.
Mr. Miscavige has led the exponential international expansion of our religion during the time I’ve been a parishioner, while also restoring the full and pure body of Mr. Hubbard’s works and making them broadly available for others to use and benefit from.
I am proud to be part of a group that does real good for people across the world every day.
Personally, this has meant that I have come to know myself and others in a way that makes sense, and to live in a way that is stable and rewarding—with dignity and the ability to genuinely help my fellow man.
On his birthday, I thank Mr. Miscavige for his brilliant and tireless leadership, and I credit him with turning Mr. Hubbard’s aims into concrete reality every day, offering me renewed hope for the future of mankind.
No one and nothing else has come close to the difference Mr. Miscavige has made in carrying forward the work and legacy of L. Ron Hubbard and extending that help to millions everywhere.
In life, we all need heroes. Mr. Miscavige is mine.
