When our Founding Fathers started this country, they put certain rights into place to protect the citizens of a new nation. These guys were pretty bright and they set up a system that included things like Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom to Assemble and Freedom of the Press.

You may have heard about the recent wave of hate crimes sweeping our nation. Crimes against Muslims in New York were up 50 percent over last year, according to Scroll.in and more than 1,000 hate crimes were committed in the last few months, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center .

The woman who unleashed a tirade of hate at my husband in the parking lot of a local grocery store had no idea who she was speaking to. All she saw was a middle-aged man wearing a baseball hat and flannel shirt who had just stepped out of a parked SUV.
