I am not prone to drama. However, having lived in Los Angeles for 30 years, I am very familiar with it. I try to keep myself busy working on my businesses, helping my family and friends and creating art. I’m generally too focused on that to pay attention to noise and sensationalism.

I recently had the pleasure of introducing a United Nations diplomat—a friend of a friend—to the subject of Scientology and the life of its founder L. Ron Hubbard . Here was her response. She told me she grew up in a Soviet country where propaganda was like rain in Ireland—you learned to expect it.

I was born in Mexico and began my formal education there. Naturally, I studied in Spanish and, because I attended a Catholic school, I was also exposed to Latin from an early age.

Pretend for a moment that I am a journalist. You’ve become something of a big deal, a hot topic. Lots of important people are mixing it up with you and it’s got the media all abuzz, so I want to do a feature piece on you. Sounds good, right? But I don’t want to interview you personally.

There is a great injustice being perpetuated by social media. This injustice creates a “fertile” soil for unfair discrimination, lies, and potential destruction for individuals and organizations. It is the communicating and forwarding of unsubstantiated “facts,” innuendos and negative comments about some individual or organization that color the way we think of him or it.

When you hear the name Norfolk, you’re likely to think of the sprawling Virginia metropolis fronting the vast Chesapeake Bay and not some other Norfolk, one- tenth the size, half a nation away, the ninth largest city in Nebraska.

Historically, the human race has excelled in the fields of prejudice and discrimination. Historically, the human race has then demonstrated—by its actions and attendant consequences—that all such efforts to make others less “human” and therefore targets for persecution have been nothing but destructive, not only to the victims of such crimes, but to the perpetrators.
