Deadline Hollywood Fawning over Leah Remini

The July 13 piece, fawning over Remini’s Emmy announcement, was just today eviscerated by none other than Radar Online which reported that the whole series “was a total act.” Radar further reports that an erstwhile associate of Remini’s branded her show “cheap and fake” because it was “scripted” and is without a bone of genuine content as she, Remini, is only doing it “for the money.”

Mr. Fleming:

Matt Grobar’s recent coverage of my religion, Scientology, is bigoted. This is seen in coverage of Leah Remini and her Emmy nomination.

His July 13 piece, fawning over Remini’s Emmy announcement, was just today eviscerated by none other than Radar Online which reported that the whole series “was a total act.” Radar further reports that an erstwhile associate of Remini’s branded her show “cheap and fake” because it was “scripted” and is without a bone of genuine content as she, Remini, is only doing it “for the money.”

Radar Online also quotes Remini’s former friend stating: “Leah would act as if she had been persecuted by Scientology for having all this information about it. All the while, she was orchestrating and having her agents create this story of her leaving…. It was a sting operation, to get Scientology to react to her.”

Further, while you laud Remini’s salacious but highly dubious book about her life in Hollywood and as a Scientologist, thetalko.com just published an article carrying a number of reviews of her book that reveal a very different perception: “Karen Weissert: “So boring I could not finish” Amanda Carruthers: “The one star is generous. Do not waste your time.” Mandi: “I can’t believe I just read that. Someone needs to wash my brain out.” Bartleby: “I’m not sure I’ll ever watch another episode of King of Queens” knowing what I now know about Leah Remini.” Robin Ragan: “The book is going in the garbage where it belongs.”

The true story is simple: Remini launched a hate campaign against her former Church and its members, some of whom were her friends. There is no altruism in her actions. It’s all about money and keeping her face and name in the public. In return, we have done nothing but reveal the consequences of her actions and the harm she causes the lives of real people.

I suggest you look a little closer. Ms. Remini’s house of cards has started to implode, along with her fraudster sidekick Mike Rinder.

All this to say that your coverage of the Scientology religion is bigoted and one-sided. Please refrain from doing so in the future. You will find reliable sources at www.scientology.org and www.scientologyreligion.org.

Sincerely,
Janet Weiland
