COMBATING BIGOTRY & HATE
People so often show their true colors during challenging times and, for most people, that means finding ways to succeed in spite of any and all barriers. There are countless examples of selfless acts around the world over the course of this challenging, unforgettable year. Thankfully only a small minority of people actually wish ill on others. They can be difficult to spot because they can come in any “form”—attractive or homely, prosperous or destitute, charming or rude—but you will know them by their actions.
SCIENTOLOGY RELIGION
First, the diversity—people from all countries, races, languages, ages and professions. It was fascinating. Individuals from all over the world, all walks of life and every stage of life were sharing very personal stories of what their religion meant to them and each story was as unique as the person telling it.
SCIENTOLOGY RELIGION
When it comes up in conversation with someone that I’m a Scientologist, I usually say to the person: “…and you’re welcome to ask me anything you like about it.” People almost always take me up on the offer.
TOLERANCE
Today is Human Rights Day. It’s the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by countries around the world—after the atrocities of World War II finally inspired the global community to work together to solve international disputes more constructively.
SCIENTOLOGY RELIGION
That idea is especially ridiculous because, as a person studies and applies Scientology to more and more areas of life, their ability to think analytically and rationally and make positive decisions becomes easier and easier. The entire purpose of Scientology is to bring about everything that’s best and brightest and most capable in a person while getting rid of anything and everything that might be holding them back.
TOLERANCE
The idea that one group has a monopoly on the truth has been proven false time and time again. We are each shaped by the uniqueness of our experiences. The point of universal human rights is to create an environment in which people can peacefully coexist regardless of difference, and ideally we can learn to celebrate the endless diversity that creates the human experience.
TOLERANCE
On October 24, 1945, the UN was founded with the atrocities of World War II still emblazoned on the world’s collective consciousness.
COMBATING BIGOTRY & HATE
I’m done allowing my church—my friends, my family, my community—to be the punch line, or the recipient of hate speech disguised and tossed off as “wit.”
ANTI-RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDA
I’m not sure what was worse—having to tell him or seeing his muted reaction. He’s 14 now and I’ve had to explain this kind of bigotry to him many times before, so the revelation elicited little more than an eye roll. He has come to expect it now.
SCIENTOLOGY RELIGION
I was born in the South. There’s a kind of running joke about how someone in the South can insult you so politely you’re not even upset about it (if you even notice at all).
