Notwithstanding the UK Supreme Court’s studied decision, Newsweek has stooped to locating a single, long-expelled former member to try to drum up “controversy” over a city council’s approval to start renovations of a new church facility.

Mr. Palmer,

I noticed your rather pathetic attempt to deride the Church of Scientology in the Plymouth, Devon area of southwest England by claiming that we will use the location to “take over” the entire region—whatever that means.

The Church of Scientology has existed in Plymouth since 1971. Over that time it has expanded its parishioner base and needs larger quarters to provide services to existing members and to accommodate the increased interest in Scientology as a result of the 2018 launch of Scientology.tv.

In December 2013, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom issued a unanimous decision declaring that the Chapel at the London Church of Scientology must be recognized as a place of religious worship under UK law. This ruling is applicable to all Churches of Scientology in the United Kingdom.

The Supreme Court ruling embraces the principles of equality and non-discrimination in matters of religion. The decision ensures that the Church of Scientology and Scientologists are treated no differently from other religions and their parishioners in the UK and are accorded the same rights.

I strongly recommend you find out more about Scientology and what it truly is rather than rubbish from ex-members who are notoriously unreliable.
