Will Disney’s Bigotry Be Its Undoing?

Since all organizations who’ve engaged in discrimination and bigotry have eventually ended up having to apologize later, and had to make up for the damage they did, how far does Disney dare push the inevitable liability it will incur as a result.

Senior VP & Chief Diversity Officer
The Walt Disney Company

Dear Ms. Newton,

I’m sure you have heard plenty of entreaties by now that the Disney Corporation end its campaign against Scientologists via A&E. This letter is of course, one more of those.

I would however like to throw in a few conundrums to be contemplated if decision is taken for the campaign to move forward.

What will Disney do with the Scientologists who are currently working for Disney? Obviously the fact they were Scientologists didn’t factor into the vetting and hiring process, so how will Disney justify discrimination and marginalization of their own employees on their personal religious choice?

Now that Disney has embarked upon active discrimination, where does the company intend to draw the line? Since all religions have had flawed individuals and diverse and misunderstood theories, Disney certainly has plenty of religions to choose from. How many and which ones will be selected for extermination?

Since all organizations who’ve engaged in discrimination and bigotry have eventually ended up having to apologize later, and had to make up for the damage they did, how far does Disney dare push the inevitable liability it will incur as a result.

These are certainly not problems I would personally wish to solve since it is one of those profit versus risk assessments, but you may want to run these very real problems by risk management to see what they have to say.

Sincerely,

Roger Clark
