Ms. Thompson,

I read your September 19 article. Corrections are in order.

In 2013 the Church of Scientology expelled Ms. Remini. She was expelled because she either refused or was incapable of adhering to our ethical standards. Over the many years prior she was given enormous assistance to help correct her wayward and unethical ways, but she was simply disinclined. It was her choice.

Remini’s sidekick, Mike Rinder, walked out on his wife, his two children, his mother and brother and extended family, his friends and his religion in June 2007. He knew exactly what he was doing but chose to divorce himself from everyone. Again, that was his choice. He made his own bed, and now he must sleep in it. Blaming others for it is a wrong assignment of responsibility on his part.

Contrary to Rinder’s scams, I know others who have left the Sea Organization, the Church’s most dedicated fraternal group, and who have retained very close connections with family and friends who have remained members.

You refer to Going Clear, a flop film, if only because its maker never interviewed a Scientologist and never entered a Scientology Church. His zero inspection of the subject of his “documentary” was propaganda of the most nefarious kind.

While you laud Remini’s salacious but utterly dubious book about her life in Hollywood and as a Scientologist, thetalko.com published an article carrying a number of reviews of her book that reveal a totally different perception:

  • Karen Weissert: “So boring I could not finish.”
  • Amanda Carruthers: “The one star is generous. Do not waste your time.”
  • Mandi: “I can’t believe I just read that. Someone needs to wash my brain out.”
  • Bartleby: “I’m not sure I’ll ever watch another episode of King of Queens knowing what I now know about Leah Remini.”
  • Robin Ragan: “The book is going in the garbage where it belongs.”

The true story is simple: Remini launched a hate campaign against her former Church and its members, some of whom were her friends. There is no altruism in her actions. It’s all for money and keeping her face and name in public. In return, we have done nothing but reveal the consequences of her actions and the harm she causes real people.
