Baby still wants a cuddle

Kitty still wants to play

The sun sets, undisturbed, and the world goes on its way.

As we bluster and point

And bewail our dead;

As strangers rant and posture

As jokes and bigotry bolt overhead:

Another lamp goes out.

Another lamp goes out.

Another lamp goes out.

And Humankind squats in the semi-dark, doubting whether there is a God, after all,

While God, looking down, searches almost in vain for something human,

Finds some lamps still burning,

And decides to let the sun rise just one more day.
