When the “ Freedom From Religion Foundation” and other atheist crusaders put on their big-boy pants and go after religious symbols on postal workers and bureaucrats, Christmas trees at the White House or Holiday Menorahs on Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills, I’ll believe they are sincere.

He was hoping for some weird, juicy secret stuff from an insider but I had to disappoint him. Nothing there to tell. After that night, the more I thought about it, I realized that’s really all I had been doing over my years as a practicing Scientologist. So now I’ll explain it to you.

Journalists always seem to get their panties in a wad, downright insulted that Scientologists, when asked to “respond to their critics” don’t immediately fall all over themselves in a rush to kneel at the feet of said journalists in fawning supplication, begging to be liked and hoping for approval.

It was 1938. Adolph Hitler (Time Magazine’s “Man of the Year”) had begun dropping in on his neighbors without an invitation. It was also the year that a 23 year old genius actor-director named Orson Welles, had a bright idea. He decided to punch up the drama on the radio show The Mercury Theatre on the Air, which did dramatizations of classic novels.

If you have the impression that Scientologists never examine Scientology, you would be wrong. The simple practice of Scientology forces you to eventually look into and evaluate everything, including Scientology.

So there I was minding my own business, having a little fun scrolling through what passes for “the news” when I spy this headline: “ Atheist Stanford Professor Teaches Religion Is Mental Illness .” Well that was just too rich to pass up.
