Mr. Yellen, Do You Want Your Good Name Stained With Remini Hate?

Dear Mr. Yellen,

You don’t know me, but we undoubtedly have known some of the same people.

You and I are also about the same age, and each have had fathers with substance abuse problems. My dad passed away in 1995.

I grew up in Los Angeles among Jewish kids in a suburb named after Tarzan, the famous jungle-dwelling character from the novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs, who had an estate here.

To cut to the chase, I understand you are a contributor to IPC, the Intellectual Property Corporation.

You may not be aware that one of the TV programs that benefits from the IPC is a show dedicated to religious persecution.

The Aftermath, starring Leah Remini, is a pseudo-documentary show that attacks religious people and their beliefs, and tends to make them out to be evil or stupid. I know, because my religion, Scientology, has been the main focus of this bigotry.

The Aftermath is an anti-religious propaganda tool.

You may not be aware that this program exists. You are certainly aware that demonizing members of a particular religion with propaganda can have the most devastating effects on those members, and those who love them.

As Martin Niemöller wrote,

“First they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Please consider what effect your support of The Aftermath will have on people whose religious beliefs may be unpopular to someone who is enjoying her fleeting moment in the sun.

Your work with Belfor is life-affirming and positive, and I’m certain you are as well.

Thank you for reading this.

Sincerely,
Jim Meskimen
