Dear Brian,

I read your article and watched the video where you or someone else dissembled the Mark VII Hubbard Electrometer.

I have operated a Mark VII for probably 1,000 hours of auditing, (Scientology spiritual counseling) so have familiarity with it.

The Hubbard Electrometer, known as an E-Meter, is a religious artifact intended only for Scientology spiritual counseling. In itself, it does nothing.

Your analysis of the E-Meter omitted the one key element for which it was developed. It is an electronic instrument that measures mental state and change of state in individuals and assists the precision and speed of auditing—a core practice of the Scientology religion.

When a person thinks a thought, looks at a picture in their mind, re-experiences a life incident or shifts some part of the reactive mind, they are moving and changing actual mental mass and energy. These changes in the mind influence the tiny flow of electrical energy generated by the E-Meter, causing the needle on its dial to move. The needle reactions on the E-Meter tell the auditor where the charge (mental energy) lies, and that it should be addressed through auditing.

In the hands of a well-trained Scientology auditor, Latin for “one who listens,” it guides the auditor to deliver the spiritual miracles of Dianetics and Scientology to individuals—which is its purpose.

I tell you this to supplement your understanding of the physical working parts of the E-Meter and to connect it with its true purpose.
