Rolling Stone: Stick with the Facts on Scientology

Had he instead opened a book by L. Ron Hubbard or listened to one of his many lectures—similar to listening to Beck’s music before writing his opinion—Piccinini would certainly deliver a more intelligent and meaningful opinion.

Mr. Ravitz:

I saw Alberto Piccinini’s review “The Beck’s ‘pop perfection.’” He obviously appreciates the quality of Beck’s music and that Beck is a truly gifted musician responsible for great artistic contribution to today’s culture.

Why must he then malign Scientology and its Founder L. Ron Hubbard in gratuitous criticism shocking in its ignorance? We all know that not in a million years would you ever write “How tragic that [fill in the name] is a Jew, (or a Catholic or a Buddhist or a homosexual or transgender), when he is so brilliant!”

Had he instead opened a book by L. Ron Hubbard or listened to one of his many lectures—similar to listening to Beck’s music before writing his opinion—Piccinini would certainly deliver a more intelligent and meaningful opinion. He should try it. It is not difficult.

Instead, he spread an arrogant and bigoted opinion about a subject he does not know and an opinion not derived from experience or knowledge.

In the future, give your readers the benefit of a view gained from knowledge, not just a reprint of others’ disparagement. Doing so will bring your publication greater repute.

Accurate information on Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard are found at www.scientology.org and www.lronhubbard.org. Please use these in future articles.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Blair
