MEDIA & ETHICS
The downfall of journalism has come with a price.
MEDIA & ETHICS
I resolve to remove all adjectives in referring to a religion or group.
TOLERANCE
If I were a traditional journalist, I would not interview Bishop Jon Fish of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He makes no accusations, nurses no grudges, minimizes conflicts, ignores those who denigrate his faith, and works to spread understanding and inclusion. He’s a “glass half full” kind of guy, and a journalist or an editor looking for a quick piece of clickbait or a mean-spirited comment for “controversy” would come up empty.
RELIGIOUS LITERACY
What I saw was a recognition of the best kind of inclusion: a collection of movies, TV shows, and press coverage where Muslims are not necessarily the story (although in two of the films, they are) but who, in their portions of the stories, are depicted as they are: human beings—not necessarily perfect human beings, but real ones.
TOLERANCE
I’ve driven urban professionals, reformed criminals, burlesque dancers, angel investors, families with groceries, people with baggage. Some are in a hurry to get the hell out of wherever I picked them up from.
RELIGIOUS LITERACY
Damning headlines and unforgivable scandal have, in recent times, become synonymous in the media with the Catholic Church, and I admire and applaud the journalists and survivors who have been brave enough to share their stories and demand justice. But the mistakes and sins of those responsible, even (and maybe especially) those at the highest level, are not Catholicism and are not religion.
COMBATING BIGOTRY & HATE
We do not have to hate each other, we do not have to fight, we do not have to natter and criticize and we do not have to be as desperately unhappy as so many of us are when filled with disgust for our fellow man.
MEDIA & ETHICS
Every time you share a meme or a column or a podcast or a video that you like or agree with, YOU become media.
MEDIA & ETHICS
More and more, these days, I see an ugly few building roofs between us and the stars, while insisting we’ll forever stay in the gutter
MEDIA & ETHICS
War is sold by a handful of madmen on the basis that every citizen of the enemy country spends every waking minute slobbering at the prospect of personally destroying you, your family and all your friends.
