I have to say, this does get old

I truly hope you find the time to consider what you are really trying to do.

Dear Mr. Sloan,

It has come to my attention that you are about to air another slam piece on my religion. I have to say, this does get old.

I have been a Scientologist for over 40 years. I have found that my church emphasizes morals and ethics as does every church I have ever studied or been a member of. Our children are the future leaders and as such we very much work with them to follow the path that, unfortunately, seems so lacking in our society today.

While schools are teaching our children all about very explicit sexual actions and the choices they can make, while elementary children are introduced to sex in grade school, while television teaches them that having affairs, doing drugs and cheating to get what you want is the way of the world, we teach our children to not be promiscuous, to be true to their spouse, to be honest, fair and forthright. We believe in this, we practice this, and we teach our children this.

Your station airs very explicit sexual content. The airwaves are filled with music that is completely inappropriate, makes women into sexual objects and promotes killing cops. Do you see a bit of irony in the fact that your piece has to do with the invented problem of sexual discussion in a church? Even if it were true, which it is not, do you really think that they are hearing anything at all that they haven’t heard in sex-ed class, the radio and your TV station?

I have worked with many parents who have had to deal with peer pressure on their children to do drugs, smoke and to be promiscuous. Most children raised in Scientology steer clear of these pitfalls due to their parents taking an interest in their lives and holding true to the tenets of Scientology.

In a time when the mainstream media is becoming irrelevant in people’s lives, due to their inclination to conduct vendettas instead of actually finding and reporting real news, this show would appear to be another nail in the coffin of our society’s trust and belief in that institution. Where The New York Times is apologizing for its bias in the presidential election in an effort to remain relevant, it appears you are taking the other route and continuing to report “news” that is divisive, bigoted, anti-religious, unreliable and just plain annoying.

Just wanted to express my opinion. I truly hope you find the time to consider what you are really trying to do. Do you think doing an anti-religious piece will improve your ratings, or will it confirm your complete inability to look for and report truth?

Sincerely,
