An Open Letter From a Proud German To the Bavarian OPC

I just came across your video, which claims to be about Scientology. Were it from a desperate journalist trying to get clickbait by using my religion’s name, I couldn’t have cared less with the little number of views it has. But coming from your channel, the channel of the Bavarian State government, left me speechless, shocked, and utterly embarrassed. I live in America, but I am a proud German. I was raised to love Bavaria and grew up with the Bavarian dialect all around me. Every year I would proudly wear my dirndl for Oktoberfest. Never have I been ashamed of being a Bavarian before.

Yes, the Holocaust took place, yes my family fought in the war, yes those were terrible times, but naive me thought that those times passed—that Germany had learned its lesson. Seeing this crude video so openly attacking my religion as if we were back in the 1900s is just appalling to me. One of the three comments on the video asks for the next video to be on the Jehovah’s Witnesses. And what will be next? Religious segregation maybe, or maybe we just go right back to late 1939, since apparently not much has changed in regards to the viewpoint of the German government.

Never have I been ashamed of being a Bavarian before.

On your channel, you write and I quote: “You can comment on our videos publicly… Posts will be deleted if they are insulting, defamatory, sexist, racist, hateful, religiously offensive, anti-constitutional, threatening, or have content that is criminally relevant in any way or violates legal provisions.” I don’t know what to say to this, it really is beyond ridiculous—it literally says religiously offensive! What do you think this video is? Besides being a lie, it most definitely falls under the categories you describe: it is insulting, defamatory, hateful and unconstitutional. It blows my mind that in 2020 we still have discrimination and worse, that it is coming from Germany where so many lives were lost as a direct result of discrimination

I really would like to know what you are doing to help people, what you are doing to fight the drug, education and human rights problems our country has. What makes you, the Office of the Protection of the Constitution, believe that you can be unconstitutional and insult my religion like this?

I ask you to take this embarrassing bigotry down and respect all religions. Of all countries, Germany should be the first to fight back against discrimination and teach the next generations religious tolerance.
