ANTI-RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDA
In its latest issue, tabloid magazine Life & Style defamed the Scientology religion once again, employing stereotypes, debunked myths, and anti-Scientology tropes while publishing bigoted and childish descriptors like “weird” in connection with the global religion.
COMBATING BIGOTRY & HATE
The “religion” of bigotry—for, make no mistake: it requires a hefty heap of faith to ignore logic and the evidence of one’s own eyes to hate people one doesn’t even know—is a cruel taskmaster, brooking nothing less than full commitment.

“Quoting Leah Remini on the subject of Scientologists or their religion is no different than quoting a white supremacist about Jews or their faith,” said National STAND Director Bari Berger. “Racism is racism, anti-Semitism is anti-Semitism, Islamophobia is Islamophobia and hate is hate. Young’s ignorant coverage gives a platform to lies and targets Scientologists for their religion. Such discrimination has no place in 2020.”

No one deserves that. Yet the world is full of such conflicts. What can we do about it? Personal justice starts with each of us. It can span the gamut from resolving a playground fight between children with fairness to accommodation of religious beliefs in the workplace.

Have you ever noticed that when someone has entirely mastered a skill or subject they are usually very calm, unemotional and matter-of-fact? And the fewer accurate facts someone knows about a thing the more emotional they tend to be? Well, a master knows the precise truth of the subject. The other one doesn’t.

Working for the United Nations is an honor. The UN’s core values reflect a desire for a better, safer, freer society for all. Its charter includes the purposes “promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion.”

Possibly there should have been a separate back entrance to the Whole Foods, labeled “Scientologists Only.” Possibly, too, separate bathrooms, separate water fountains, separate schools, separate neighborhoods to prevent them from polluting our pure non-Scientology selves. Someone call the manager!

It never ceases to amaze me that stupidity and arrogance so often go hand in hand, or in Pensacola News Journal columnist and cartoonist Andy Marlette’s case, pen in hand.

I read an article recently on Slashfilm.com about a friend of mine, a lovely and talented actress who, in her spare time, has been doing some incredible volunteer work, bringing human traffickers to justice—an activity that takes a lot of compassion, not to mention guts.
COMBATING BIGOTRY & HATE
Yes, chatty little “everyone-knows” assertions can develop into virulent violent acts of rage with the turn of a page, the click of a mouse, the frown of a doubt. So yes, let’s talk about hate. Or, on second thought, let’s not. Let’s talk about not-hate. The use of the word “hate” lets far too many people go (“Tsk. Not me.”). It’s too easy to say, “Goodness gracious, I don’t HATE those people. I just would rather my kids went to a ‘better’ school, if you know what I mean.”
