RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
The origins of Islam in the U.S. today trace back to one simple concept, one word, three syllables: sla-ve-ry. When Ilhan Omar joined Rashida Tlaib in the House of Representatives at the beginning of January, 2019, wielding a huge copy of the Quran, she became the first Somali-American in Congress. A person of color and a Muslim, Omar fled Somalia as a child and emigrated to America at the age of 13.
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
The case seems simple at first. Dominique Hakim Marcelle Ray was convicted in 1995 of the rape and murder of a 15-year old girl and sentenced to death. Ray subsequently converted to Islam in 2006 while incarcerated. The death sentence was to be carried out Feb.

The immortality of the soul is certainly a crucial and integral part of the belief systems of most if not all religions. And rightfully so.
COMBATING BIGOTRY & HATE
A religion is bad because of the horrible things done in its name. Right? That’s like saying that the institution of marriage is bad because of some people’s infidelity.

In Malaysia this week the heads of its different states (collectively called “the Rulers”) issued a joint statement calling for unity and harmony among its different ethnic and religious groups.
COMBATING BIGOTRY & HATE
When one has traveled and mingled with the peoples of Earth, one quickly realizes that just about anyone—no matter his or her faith, color or creed—has the same aspirations, the same admiration of beauty, the same quest for happiness.
TOLERANCE
That’s the importance of religion, to me. And I know it’s true because I experienced it at that interfaith meeting. And this changed my mind and heart about ever bashing or putting down another’s faith.

After seven hours of a passionate but civil public dialogue, more than 170 Americans came together to decide the future of their community. They went for openness, inclusion and religious freedom, granting approval for a new mosque to be built in suburban Virginia.

I’ve heard plenty of people ask, “If Islam is a religion of peace, why aren’t they speaking out against terrorism?” My answer is and has been for a while, “They are.” Just one example of this can be seen here. Now, why didn’t you hear about this? Muslims speaking out against terrorism .

At the beginning of June, a U.S. senator grilled an appointee to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The senator attempted to use the appointee’s Christian beliefs to imply he was intolerant of other religions (namely Islam) and therefore unfit for the job.
