Dear Ms. Bell,

Your writer, Aja Romano, who describes herself as “obsessed with cults,” seems to have another problem: bigotry.

The language she casually uses to describe the Scientology religion in her article of December 30 is little different from that used by Joseph Goebbels to describe Jews. It is a disgrace that Vox permits her to do so, in this of all times—when individuals of conscience the world over continue to take a highly vocal stand against hate and demand an end to discrimination against minorities.

Ms. Romano apparently goes out of her way to find “opportunities” to defame the Scientology religion and spread hateful rhetoric against its members. In an August 2019 article, she strains to fix in the mind of the reader a connection between Scientology and the infamous murderer, Charles Manson. It reflects terribly on Vox that I would have to inform you that this is beyond despicable.

You have worked long and hard to build Vox into what it is today. As a bright, dedicated thinker, talented writer, and accomplished media executive, you are trying to make something happen in this world.

Hate has no role to play in that picture.

Please remove the needless, offensive and discriminatory mentions of the Scientology religion from Ms. Romano’s article.
