I, for one, don’t believe it. Don’t get me wrong. I believe the statistics, the surveys and the opinions. I believe the anger and the hostility. What I don’t believe is that this is who we really are.

My Facebook brothers and sisters have become tribes, or more precisely, granfalloons. A granfalloon, as defined by the coiner of the term, Kurt Vonnegut, in his 1963 novel, Cat’s Cradle, is “a proud and meaningless association of human beings.”

Astounding but true! According to multiple studies, upwards of 12 million Americans, or 4 percent of the population, believe that the world is secretly run by shape-shifting lizards from outer space!
