People are catching on to the fact that the real publicity stuntperson is that individual on the sidelines, complaining shrilly, discriminating abundantly, broadcasting her own intolerance, leveling her own bigotry and grinding her own axe while the hard work of helping others and keeping hope alive is being done by dedicated parishioners of the Church of Scientology.

The “religion” of bigotry—for, make no mistake: it requires a hefty heap of faith to ignore logic and the evidence of one’s own eyes to hate people one doesn’t even know—is a cruel taskmaster, brooking nothing less than full commitment.

Much like hateful anti-Semitic and anti-Asian misinformation campaigns spread throughout the pandemic, Jancelewicz forwards Remini’s falsehoods about the Church of Scientology’s response to COVID-19, in spite of all evidence to the contrary—evidence including the Church’s full online How to Stay Well Prevention Resource Center, a comprehensive resource and information site dedicated to educating the public on preventing the spread of illness and proper sanitizing methods, in 21 languages, from English to Portuguese and Gaelic to Xhosa. The Church also saw to the printing and distribution of more than 5 million Stay Well educational booklets to communities worldwide.

They know what she sees as she peers out that window. No one deserves that. Yet the world is full of such conflicts. What can we do about it? Personal justice starts with each of us. It can span the gamut from resolving a playground fight between children with fairness to accommodation of religious beliefs in the workplace.
