STAND to Attend RCC Annual Convention

Edward Parkin, the International Director of Scientologists Taking Action Against Discrimination (STAND), is soon headed for this year’s Religion Communicators Council (RCC) conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The national gathering April 5-7, will be the first RCC annual convention with a STAND representative. STAND launched its website and social media platforms in early 2017.

Established in 1929, RCC is the oldest organization of public relations professionals in the country. As noted on its website, “RCC members promote excellence in the communication of faith and values in the public arena and encourage understanding among religious and faith groups.”

In its almost 90 years of existence, RCC has evolved and become more diverse, first open only to Protestant churches, then welcoming membership from all Christian faiths in 1967 and ultimately all religions in 1972. The Church of Scientology has been active in RCC since 2003, participating in furthering its work to increase understanding and cooperation among all faiths. The Church’s Freedom Magazine and other publications have won numerous DeRose-Hinkhouse awards for excellence.

This year’s convention in Atlanta will provide the STAND members attending the opportunity to join with other faith members in touring the Martin Luther King Jr. Center and Atlanta’s Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Mr. Parkin expressed enthusiasm about this year’s convention, noting that he looks forward to meeting with other faith communicators and to participating in the plenaries, discussions and workshops. “I am eager to meet with those from other religions and to share information, excitement and opportunities for collaboration,” he said.
